Re: Eminem - Not Afraid
But most rap is like that. Atleast on our music TV.
I just can't get used to it. When I simply compare it to metal, I don't see the skill in it, sorry

WHO CARES ABOUT SKILL?! I would rather listen to something good that requires no skill than something rubbish which requires a lot of skill. Obviously that's an extreme case, but my point is clear.

But the music sucks, and there's not anything in rap

Re: Eminem - Not Afraid
My view of rap is sculpted by the antagonizing amount of it I have to endure every day, not by some obscure rapper that lives in Holland or is from the 1980's. There might be decent songs in the underground or from the beginnings of rap, but they are still spoken words to beats a five year old makes. If I wanted to listen to lyrics to that extent I'd read poetry, because it would undoubtedly have more underlying meaning, value, and depth to it. By arguing that rap is good, which is undoubtedly what you had done until your last post, you are defending Kanye West and all the other idiotic douche-bags who are destroying any perception of talent we may have once had. If you don't specify a subset of a genre that you like it is natural to assume the person on the other end will associate that affection with the most well known form of said genre. I don't expect you to specify the specific areas of a genre that you like, but in return you shouldn't expect me to magically interpret the precise songs or artists that you like.
All that being said, rap is pointless garbage, there are genres with better beats and melodies that also contain just as intricate lyrics as high quality rap. Appreciation of talent and skill is a form of enjoyment, one most people experience.

Re: Eminem - Not Afraid
Wtf is with this pointless discussion, surely its not hard to understand that all music has different qualities, varying from the background beats, the lyrics or whatever, and different people each appreciate these different qualities.
You can only call a certain genre shit IN YOUR OPINION, because someone else is inevitabley going to enjoy that genre.

I don't listen to rap because it is too slow and not heavy/interesting enough.
There are some kinds of rap that I like. I don't mind some of Eminem and underground rap, but I hate hip-hop rap and such.
I prefer listening to 3 genres of music
1) Metal/rock (Limp bizkit, chimaira, a day to remember, bullet for my valentine, avenged sevenfold, atreyu)
2) Casual/chart rock (Kasabian, Muse, Oasis, Enter Shikari)
3) Dance music (by dance I mean anything from drum n bass such as pendulum to electronic like prodigy to glitch like bassnectar to hardstyle like headhunterz to house/electro like deadmau5.)
The best dance music seems to be the smaller groups/solo artists and remixes in my opinion.
Varied taste in music. But I hate mainstream hip-hop. I hate classical. I hate most pop. classic rock and 80s is alright.

Join the club. Mainstream music nowadays is just garbage.
Kind of 'soft' metal though. But I started with Atreyu aswell.

Yes, but one can point out technical and artistic shortcomings of a genre to help reinforce their opinion. In this instance that is what I'm doing, providing objective data to support my subjective perspective. As for why I'm arguing, I've got nothing better to do.madnesslink5 wrote:You can only call a certain genre shit IN YOUR OPINION, because someone else is inevitabley going to enjoy that genre.

Damn right. Why do people think that all arguing is justbecause we have a different opinion, sometimes we argue because we fucking want to argue. There is no love lost, its just something to doSoviet wrote:As for why I'm arguing, I've got nothing better to do.
And yes, if I were to generalise Rap, it is garbage.

Don't "watch" music, I listen to radio and 90% of it is shit. Sometimes I put on Kiss for the classics[SoE]_Zaitsev wrote:What about most shit on musical TV nowadays Drofder ?
