I used to completely hate all forms of rap, but I'm glad I no longer do, because I missed out on a lot of great music!

Yes. It has a specific BPM, snare on third beat, bass on at least two others typically. One could argue similar parameters for rap, however rap is not classified by the incredibly simple backbeats, rather it is classified by spoken lyrics. Without singing, rap can still be interesting, however it's simply talking to a beat. It's no different than reading a poem to a rhythm. Considering the fact that the content of the typical modern rap piece consists of repetitive crap about prostitutes, sex, drugs that oftentimes contains words that don't even exist, it's hard to look at the 'genre' with any type of respect. In fact, could it even be referred to as poetry when the creators of the lyrics are incapable of even rhyming different lines without making up words?

On the other hand dubstep has no concern with lyrics. While some songs may contain lyrics, typically they are simply sampled from other songs. They are then mixed with complex beats and intricate rhythms. If a dubstep artist were to take a rap song and remix it to dubstep, I would then call it music (assuming it wasn't shit). One could argue that since rap is also simply a conglomeration of sounds it is also music. That's a valid response, however by my personal opinion it is not, anyone can make up a poem with fake words and recite it to an incredibly simple beat. Many people argue the same with electronic music, but I've seen enough shit electronic music to prove otherwise. It doesn't matter what tools you give a person, most people simply cannot create electronic music. It's a completely different, but no less difficult, skill than playing an instrument.

Suggesting it takes less skill than playing an actual instrument simply implies ignorance as that is the common response to every sort of social advancement that is rejected by a portion of society. I have a friend, he's one of the best guitar players I've ever heard. He can pick up just about any instrument and play it, he has incredible natural talent. And yet, when creating electronic music, even though he has done it for about a decade, he is just average. He is just now starting to get into clubs and make money creating and playing electronic music (after 10 years and with incredible musical talent). I've seen 5 year olds rap with the same skill as the most famous and rich rap artists out there. So until rap contains rhyming beyond my poetic capabilities and beats beyond my capabilities I will not consider it music. It is generic crap about hypocritical topics that aid their creators in nothing more than bragging about their own idiocy. There is no art in waving your testosterone about like your dick, art and uncivilized instinctual overly-simplistic idiocy don't go hand in hand.
