$1,848,000,000 in 1997 for Titanic is worth $2,490,830,000 now...

Even ignoring the inflation, I wouldn't read into these type of lists too much. Cinema tickets have probably gone up considerably more than inflation (speaking from person experience!), and you've also got to consider that people are probably paying much more to see Avatar than they would most other movies because they want to see it in 3D etc.

i just watched this film tonight, and i must say 1 of the best films i haeseen. Not just the effects, but the story was excelent to. It had everything, from action to a bit of comedy .

I dont care. i will admit to have watching the first one. it was boring as hell. the "action" had me no were near the edge of my seat and the characters were as dull as idk... harry potter? (thats right im compairing lotr to harry potter...) well, i gotta admit when i say it i did jump once or twice.... but thats probably more because my ex slaps me when ever i nap during a movie. the plot line was bearly there. actually, they maintained it throughout 3 movies. you know, i do give them props its very hard to maintained a plotline of walking to a giant volcano THROUGHT 3 movies that were how long?. i mean really, they did nothing but fight random ppl and walk to a volcano. why didnt they fly there on that thing? the plot line of lotr is extremly pathetic , dragged out waaaaay to long, and not sufficent enough to actually even be a movie, and how the fuck it did so good and managed 3 movies is soly based on the fact taht, veiwers of these sorts of movies love the fucking shit outa it.

Yeah, LOTR's plot is so ridiculous, it only created the entire fantasy genre as we know it today. Besides having the most intricate world ever created, it is a hell of a lot more than "walking to a volcano". You can oversimplify any plot like that if you so desire.

-Harry Potter is nothing more than a child wizard going to school.
-Donnie Darko is nothing more than a kid dealing with wormholes.
-Kill Bill is nothing but a bride seeking her revenge.
-The Titanic is nothing but a love story.
-The Dark Knight is nothing more than Batman fighting the Riddler.
-Star Wars is nothing more than a drawn out fight between the Jedi and the Sith.
-Casablanca is nothing but a love story.
-The Matrix is nothing more than a man finding out he lives in a virtual reality controlled by machines.
-12 Angry Men is nothing more than a jury reaching a verdict.
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is nothing more than people erasing their memories.
-Die Hard is just a guy fighting some terrorists.

Above I have listed some mediocre movies, as well as some of the best movies ever made and most intricate plots ever designed. Note that regardless of the actual complexity, all of their plots can still be described in one sentence if I try. All you're doing is vastly oversimplifying what is commonly held as the greatest trilogy ever made, along with each individual movie easily in the running for one of the best movies ever made.

Of course, if you really wanted to understand the world created in Lord of the Rings instead of just that brief glimpse, you'd have to read the 365 page book "The Silmarillion" to understand all the underlying ideas and mythologies that are very frequently alluded to, referenced, and actively involved in the story.

For the record I can put up with a lot of bullshit on this forum, but bashing LOTR goes too far.

Don't bother defending the film Sov, the film speaks for itself. If the film was bad, then it wouldn't be the success it is.

If someone said, I do not like LOTR because I do not enjoy the fantasy genre, then fine, but to say anything along the lines of poor plot, character development or lack of action is just moronic.

the Lord of the rings series was just not for me.

micheal jackson was known as "The king of pop" and created dance moves sang real good and so forthe - i dont like his music him or his dancing. is he a bad musician and all around artist? no, not at all unfortunatly his memory will live on for ever.
