Sound Cards - Worth it?

Sound Cards - Worth it?
I was wondering if anyone had a sound card, and if so if it is worth the cost for the sound quality difference.

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
I've always wondered how much of a difference it would make. I use my mobo sound connected to my hifi, connected to 3 speakers and a sub woofer.

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
FUCK YES
If you're a gamer, its DEFINITELY worth it because it makes things sound amazingly good (you can hear exact places, distances, etc that sounds come from) and for entertainment such as movies and music it's a strong recommendation, but it's not as amazing change as it's with gaming.
I've got an X-fi extreme gamer and it's really, really nice
You can use different modes for gaming and music, and there's really a huge difference.
It also depends how fastidious (spelling?) you are. I don't listen to music with low bitrate for example cos I think it sounds horrible, so for me it makes music sound SO MUCH better.

Ok, do either of you know whether it is worth it to go with a PCI-E or just stick with a PCI sound card then?

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
I just use a Logitech headset (Approx 50 euros) and I can hear exactly where enemies are in CoD4 and L4D (CoD5 is a lot harder because of the fucked up sound).
It's true about movies and music though, you can hear the bass much better.

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
Practically impossible to get a Medusa in the US. So no one knows if there is any useful difference between PCI and PCIe for sound cards?

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
Lucky for you, I've had mine for 8 months and it snapped. I'm now back to using my 'spare' set whil I await a new set to arrive (along with an RMA for the original, to become my NEW spare setKillerSam wrote:I have tried many cheap headsets, none are very good to be honest. I used to get through them at a rate of about 1 every 4-6months. I have had my medusa for about 2 years howevermatt101harris wrote:£15 headset ftw

[Issue being I will now have TWO amplifiers, as no shop has the 'replacement' headset in stock]
I am using my MB sound card (Realtek HD) with the Medusa 5.1 Home set and if sound gets any better than I couldn't give a shit. Paying £50-£100 on a sound card that improves sound any more than what I have is pointless imo.

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
I had a response from Medusa-UK who are currently attempting to get new stock, but they said wait 2 weeks...
I am currently using these (below) and fuck waiting 2 weeks, I prefer to just spend an extra £15 and just order now...

Re: Sound Cards - Worth it?
I really don't know the difference between using a PCI or a PCI-e soundcard. All I can think of is that PCI-e is that the sound travels 0.000001 MS faster or something
If you have a free PCI-e slot I would buy a PCI-e soundcard but I've got a PCI soundcard and it's working perfectly fine
EDIT: Done some googling, and I got "Moving the data across PCIe is much, much higher than PCI" for differences, which should be pretty logical since PCI-e transfers video data which can be transferred a lot faster than audio data (which is usually transferred by PCI)
