Computer problem!
OK, currently my computer is out of action (I'm using the family PC to type this).
I was playing WaW last night and suddenly got the blue screen error (about the 5th time I've had it, although it was the first time that evening). I then restarted my computer as I normally do, except it came up with a message about boot drive or media needing changing or something of that sort. It's the exact same error I had last time one of my hard drives failed, so I wasn't pleased to say the least.
I contacted my clanleader (who's good with computers) and he instructed me as follows:
"Boot off the vista disc and pick the repair my computer option. Then open a command prompt and run chkdsk on your drives."
I attempted to do so this morning, however, when it loaded the Vista disc it went straight to install, not showing a repair option. I then suspected that it wasn't booting off the correct drive, so I restarted my computer and went into my bias setup configuration, went to "Boot device priority" and found that my CDROM is first and 'Hard drive' second.
This is currently where I'm at, because I don't know whether or not I should switch them round and make the hard drive the primary one. I assume I should do so, and then it'll recognise that I already have Vista installed, and so I should be able to choose the repair option, however, I'm not 100% sure whether this is the best thing to do so I've decided to post and ask for a more professional opinion off one of you before I do anything which could further mess up the situation!

Re: Computer problem!
the repair options should appear after the installer loaded all drivers and stuff then you should be able to choose the repair console

I'm not sure whether maybe It's just a WaW issue.
They are releasing, or have released a patch that prevents blue screens whilst playing / exiting WaW.

Re: Computer problem!
Well, despite my best efforts, it seems that exactly the same thing that happened to me in May last year has happened again, my 2nd hard drive has died. Bye bye all my films and TV programs, and 50 GB of music I transferred over earlier that day

Re: Computer problem!
you have vista? well, there's your problem! xD, jk.
Anyways, since there isn't a repair option, and your going straight to the install screen, I would personally go ahead with the install and see if that fixes the problem. I mean, you may have to reinstall most software, but you'll keep your files rather than losing them, if it works. otherwise, your HD just died and you need a new one :<. that's my opinion on the matter.when it loaded the Vista disc it went straight to install

Peds made the sensible choice and backed up his 'collection' shortly before, so those hard earned chunks of data from the years dont go to waste

Re: Computer problem!
If you just reinstall it (assuming your HD hasn't "died" or you won't be able to install it) then you'll have all your files (if you don't chose the format option) like music etc. You'll have to reinstall (most) programs though.

Re: Computer problem!
The hard drive doesn't have any power running through it when I turn my PC on. The other (main) hard drive does, so I assume the 'broken' one is properly f**ked.

Ouch, what hard drive was it, remember, all electronics goods come with a yearly repair or replace policy with the manufacturer. The only problem is, that sending away your hard drive is not recommended, unless you want people to find out about the "collection".

There is some porn on it, so I'd be reluctant to send it off, although only a small amount. Other than that it's full of films and TV programs.

I like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Only Pokemon game I liked. Well, I played red and the one after that (Gold ?). But since then, no games. Mystery Dungeon is something completely different.
