PC or TV?

PC or TV?
Hey guys. I've come up with a dilemma. Ive got a 2 year old
3300+ sempron
1GB rammage
6600VE 512mb nvidea whatever card
200GB Harddrive
Ive been thoroughly let down with this system, due to its extreme processing power lackage and its weakness when put under pressure (and its hella noisy).
Ive been saving for a big LCD TV for my room, like 37"+, found a good one for £600 40" Sony Bravia good specs. However, ive also seen good deals on new PC's, if I spend £500 i am sure I could get a killer machine. I could probably get this at my birthday (end of nov) too.
I've found this so far: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149060
(Firstly, is a 9400GT good enough for running games on the market nowadays? How would that PC cope as it is?)
It looks quite good. I can't seem to find a PSU reading, but I'm thinking this may be a decent machine. Now, I use my PC every day, and it is getting frustrating having it slow, when I am a PC geek (not as in techno biz baa but I use it a very lot) so should I put up with a slower computer? Sure, it works and it works sufficiently, but theres better on the market.
Also, saw a deal for a TV, 32" sounded good, for only £333. I could pretty much get this PC AND a TV for the price of the 40" tv i was originally aiming for.
The thing is, my PC gets used for lots of things, so im pretty sure a upgrade would be very useful. The 9400GT card with the £345 pc sounds great.
If anyone can give me any information, or to know more about what my PC get's used for mainly (no pr0n jokes) then just give me a post and I will tell you what you need to know.

Thanks for the detailed reply KS
I am currently not too happy with my system. I have no idea about building PC's or anything. I do believe its a 939 socket though from what ive read. I also read these are an old gen (?) socket so they are incompatable. I would much rather buy the whole lot at once and have a good working machine.
I'm not sure, but that system paired with the 9800GT for £100 more, would cost £450 total and would have what i would think as an awesome card inside it.

Re: PC or TV?
I would , if possible, love to just start fresh with a whole new system. Its what I feel you pay for a lot of; something fresh, new, and better, which my current PC has nothing of.
I would very happily get the £350 PC and throw a 9800GT into there. Everything I see of it is positive, and the frame rates are great too. That would be my favored option, I have some give-or-take room, but I think that would be the most useful. I'm not after a top of the range model, I'm after a mid-high, not something where I can use stupid settings like 16X AA, I want a very stable strong fast efficient system.
If there are any cards I have missed for < £120 or so, please let me know.

Yeah, on topic....
Misco send me a catalogue every so often and looking at the graphics card there's a 9800GT in there, 512mb £95 should get you a good constant fps

Hope that helps

Yes but Drofder is pointing out that our currency is becoming weaker compared to the dollar.

Technically I'm a Maths student, not an Economics student!
Having said that, I have done an Economics module at the 2nd best university in the UK for the subject

I would explain the whole exchange rate thing, but you seem to have done it for me, Sam.

Re: PC or TV?
So getting a decent £300-450 system and whacking the 9800GT card into it should be a good setup? I dont literally mean 'whack it in' by the way. I will put it carefully in without damaging anything

Yeah, I'll make the most of it. Never built a PC before though, useless with bits and pieces. What are the pieces exactly that I need to fit it all together?KillerSam wrote:Sound advice - check everything and then make your commitment, £350 doesn't come easily to mostjimbojetuk wrote: im going to bury my head into some good information so I know exacty what to get when im ready to buy.

Re: PC or TV?
you don't need a sound card. The difference is minimal for the quality increase. Also, the DVD/CD drive you have will probably work so you most likely don't need to buy a new one.
Also, you forgot RAM, gj KS
