New cpu cooler

Post by aicaramba » July 3rd, 2008, 9:55 pm

My CPU started getting a lot hotter then before. Since I have a stock c2d cooler i checked for jammed dust in between the fans and its packed with it. So I want to buy a new CPU cooler, and preferably the best cooling/silent cooler.
Seems like an easy problem, buy the best one, im afraid it aint that easy.
I was gonna go for the scythe infinity mugen and buy some arctic silver ceramique thermal compound.
Turns out the mugen doesnt fit in my case, unless I remove the 25cm sidefan.
The question is: what would be better for cooling. Removing the 25cm sidefan and buy the mugen, or keep the 25cm sidefan and buy a less good cooler (no higher then 14,5 cm)? If the 2nd option is better, what cooler then? I was thinking about the cooler master geminII, but not all reviews I read about it were all that positive.

That one is also too high. Doesnt fit in the case unless I remove the 25 cm fan. If im gonna do that, I might aswell buy the mugen.

Why not just get the red scorpion its one of the best CPU coolers ever made. Thats what I have on my quad core which is overclocked from 2.66 to 3.89 and it is silent as can be. I would get rid of the side fan for sure. Or get a antec 900 like me :)

rhe red scorpion seems like a good cooler idd. Problem is, I cant buy it at the store I was planning to buy the cooler from, so I would have to pay delivery cost.
Didnt plan on getting a new case though :P

Had to mount the 25 cm sidefan outside the case cuz else the cooler would be too high..
And made a little iron wire connected to the top of the case and the top of the cooler, to support the weight of the cooler a bit.. Dont think it was really needed, but safety first ehj..
