Perhaps a link on the forums to take you back to the main site would be useful, instead of having to change the URL manually.

Looks good, but if you have some time over, you could make buttons for the "Main" "Projects" "Forum" etc.

No need for image buttons, text is less bandwidth squishing.. and much more pleasing on the eye.

Agreed, the text looks fine, also if you need to change something later you don't need to make a whole new image.
