RIP Richard Dick Winters

Post by [SoE]_Zaitsev » January 6th, 2012, 2:49 pm

Major Winters from the series Band of Brothers (As many of you must know) died the second of January this year I just found out.

He was 92 years old and died of Parkinson.

Pretty sad. I can't remember how many times I've seen those series and must've read his book about him a couple of times :(

More important than a WW2 veteran who's actions saved the lives of a lot of soldiers (And civilians) ?

Could've done without putting that link into this topic since it's not about him...

Either way, how do you die of parkinsons? don't you die with parkinsons? Not sure about it but I always thought it wasn't fatal on it's own.
Parkinsons itself doesn't kill you, but the degeneration of the body leads to the illnesses that do kill you.
So, Parkinsons Disease is fatal in that respect.

He lived till he was 93, so i would assume he had quite the kill streak.

He fired his last bullet before he went to Holland iirc.

Also if memory serves me right he made approx 10 confirmed kills (Probably more though). He pretty much only fought in Brecourt, took more of a leadership role since Carentan and totally didn't fire a shot in Holland like I said before.

But he was renowned for his amazing leadership skills and treatment of his fellow soldiers. And he advanced in rank very fast aswell.

You should read the book written about him. It's called Biggest Brother. Mostly tells the story from his perspective.

Also this guy received so much letters he couldn't handle them anymore. He's got them from the whole wide world. His wife helped him with answering them (Every letter got answered) and to my knowledge she still lives too.

The vets from Easy Company are almost all dead. Only a few are left like Guarnere, Randlemen and Malarkey. Still like to read up on their news from time to time. Real heroes.
