I dont have enough RAM to go higher than 512, but try 768, if that doesnt work then 512 is the max...

Personally I would say thats way to high for only 1gb of ram.

All I have open is 2 webpages, and the memory I have left is about 650. This is because a lot of hidden processes will use up ram.

Ohwell, if your computer isnt lagging with it set that high, then leave it :P

and I'm guessing the maximum value is 3 digits... (999?)

Ok I just checked and its set on 640 :D and I have it that high because I have like 300 maps in my main folder  I should move the ones I dont use anymore but meh... :D
Ive got pk3s for jump maps, aim maps, loads of custom maps which BFE use, and random small client side mods like merciless blood mod and some sound pk3s :D Which all used to work on BFE (because we used pure servers) but now we dont anymore :(

and I think usually I have like 400Mb Ram free or something :? I dunno :\ and Im usually running: Firefox, Xfire, TS, CoD, iTunes, and the usual other things running in the background like Norton, Zone Alarm, Bandwidth Monitor etc. lols... :)

and my PC usually doesnt lag at all... although I sometimes get some major lag spikes when Norton tries to scan everything :x or when it updates itself :x I soo need to switch to McAfee lol...

Lol, peds. I have 2gb ram and ive just got mine set to 512mb. I'll try 1024mb and report back...

EDIT: 1024mb doesnt work for me either, nor does 768mb, but it works on 750 as a max for me :)

i have asked the question at activision, and they came with this reply
There is no hard cap to the amount of memory you can allocate using the hunkmegs command. That being said, I'd consider anything above 512 to be beyond practical for the game.

Windows is always going to reserve a certain amount of RAM to be usuable by programs other than what your primary computer task is. My guess is that once you allocate more than 512 of RAM to the game, you forcing a great increase in the usage of your virtual memory. With 2GB of RAM, I would imagine that your virtual memory/page file size is quite small. You're likely causing a need for more page file usage than your current page file size allows. Increasing the size of your page file may solve the problem you are encoutering. Of course, since setting hunkmegs to any value above 512 (and maybe even 256) is overkill, I see no reason to modify your page file size in lieu of simply reducing the your hunkmegs to 512.
