Which part, the constant deals on games, global overlay support, extensive community and profile options, or its stability? With exclusion of small amounts of downtime for updates, and periodic instability after a major update, Steam does everything xfire does and a lot more.
Re: Xfire
I love Steam for it's excellent deals along with various other features, but I do not like it's overlay function over Xfire's. Perhaps that is because I've been using Xfire longer, but I personally like their's to a greater extent than Steam's. The general feel to the software is smoother to me. I could probably find a list of logical arguments to find in order to establish my opinion in a greater light, but as for now: XFIRE FTW.Soviet wrote:Which part, the constant deals on games, global overlay support, extensive community and profile options, or its stability? Re: Xfire
How the fuck is it even POSSIBLE to hate Steam ?
But for in-game, I do prefer xfire. But they're 2 different kind of things so can't really compare.

Re: Xfire
I hate it as a program. Sure, I very much like the deals they do for games, but it's only really the program itself that I dislike.Soviet wrote:Which part, the constant deals on games, global overlay support, extensive community and profile options, or its stability? I hate how it forces you to look at people's profiles in its own annoying browers.
I don't like the sizing of many of the things (e.g. friends list).
I don't like how it doesn't have a favourites server list like Xfire.
I don't like how it takes much longer to load than Xfire, and often comes up with bullshit connection issue problems.
It does have things that Xfire does, but the vast majority of them I prefer the way Xfire does it.

Only an issue if you're having to sort through tons of friends, which shouldn't be a problem for you.Pedsdude wrote:I don't like the sizing of many of the things (e.g. friends list).

I've had more trouble with Xfire in the past than Steam.Pedsdude wrote:I don't like how it takes much longer to load than Xfire, and often comes up with bullshit connection issue problems.
Re: Xfire
Can you set it so that when you click to view someone's profile, or to check your own control panel while in Steam, it opens it up in Firefox?Soviet wrote:https://steamcommunity.com/Pedsdude wrote:I hate how it forces you to look at people's profiles in its own annoying browers.
The only reason it's not a problem for me currently is because I don't want many friends on Steam because I don't use it often enough. There's a circle going on there.Soviet wrote:Only an issue if you're having to sort through tons of friends, which shouldn't be a problem for you.Pedsdude wrote:I don't like the sizing of many of the things (e.g. friends list).
And for games such as CoD4 that I haven't bought through Steam?Soviet wrote:View>Servers>FavoritesPedsdude wrote:I don't like how it doesn't have a favourites server list like Xfire.
I find that very hard to believe. On a related note, I've very recently clicked to open Steam and it's been on "Connecting Steam account" for literally 2 minutes. Xfire would have been fully loaded within 20 seconds.Soviet wrote:I've had more trouble with Xfire in the past than Steam.Pedsdude wrote:I don't like how it takes much longer to load than Xfire, and often comes up with bullshit connection issue problems.

Re: Xfire
I don't really use Steam either. I mainly use it for the awesome deals all the time.
And it has some very interesting news regarding upcoming new games, patches, blogs and whatnot else. Things that xfire doesn't have, and things that xfire doesn't need. Both programs are pretty awesome.

Re: Xfire
The last time Steam messed up for me was about 4 months ago with the Steam UI Beta. And frankly, it's a beta, I'm not surprised it messed up. My xfire overlay, however, never works in BC2 and only works half the time in CoD4. Saying Xfire is in a different league makes it sound superior, which it is not. It might be a little faster and smoother, but that is because it is so basic. They are only in different leagues in the sense that Xfire's complexity isn't even comparable to Steam's. Oh, and Steam Cloud.
