World Cup sweepstakes (betting pool)

Post by Pedsdude » June 22nd, 2010, 1:58 pm

Right, seeing as we missed this at the start of the tournament, we're going to do it for the last 16 (i.e. whoever's left as one of the top 2 in their group at end of group stages).

It's just for fun, no real money is involved, although if anyone has any suggestions for a prize to the winner then feel free to post in here. Monetary prize is probably out of the equation, although perhaps our standard @codjumper.com email address prize might do? :P

For those who don't know how these work - people sign up, then once we have 16 signups we'll randomly allocate each person to each team in the tournament, and whoever's team wins the world cup is the winner!

If you want to join the sweepstakes then reply in this topic saying so - please don't post if you don't want to take part (unless you have prize suggestions).

Once we have 16 applicants I will be closing entrants (can't have more than 1 person to a team, surely?!), and will allocate the teams randomly (you'll just have to trust me on that, although I do have a webcam so perhaps I could do a live 'paper out of the hat' feed :P).

Current entrants:
1. Pedsdude
2. KS
3. Brody
4. Hoogie

Don't pretend you've got somewhere to be tonight, Matty! Also, if I did it tomorrow it'd have to be before 3pm which means that the Americans would have to be up before 10am to see it, which is a bit ridiculous.

In in London until Monday afternoon, so my parrot will not be picking them out of the hat.

Hats have been prepared and the pieces of paper are inside waiting. Just got 2 more bits of paper to write Spain and Switzerland on (probably :P) later.

Actually its very unlikely for Switzerland to advance, they need to beat Honduras and have Spain beat Chile and also They have to make up a goal difference of -1 to 2, and since Chile actually beat the Swiss they have to have a BETTER goal differential, meaning theyll have to score 2 goals and Spain will have to score 2 or some combo like that.

Spain and Switzerland are the favourites to go through. Spain should easily beat Chile and Switzerland should easily beat Honduras.

Spain (1/3), Switzerland (8/15), Chile (8/13), Honduras (150)

Chile is in a very commanding position though is what I'm saying, I feel like they won't go down easily to the Spanish, who haven't been impressive at all in this world cup.

I might have to eat my words, Spain just destroyed Chile in the first half without even playing very well...
