Overclocking Help please

Post by bennieboy777 » October 1st, 2009, 3:18 am

Hello codjumpers.

Ive been jumping for a while and found a few new bounces and all that but ive realized that timescale really screws up my strafe. i cant get nearly as far as people with timescale 1 and 333 fps get.

Thus i have decided to slightly overclock my GPU/CPU (whichever one i can). But the problem is, i have a very old system and dont know if i can overclock it at all.

Specs:
Manufacturer: emachines
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
Memory: 1536MB RAM
Hard Drive: 200 GB Total
Video Card: Radeon X1950 Pro
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy
Keyboard: USB Root Hub
Mouse: USB Root Hub
OS: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)

I would not recommend OCing your processor at all for a number of reasons including your computer being store bought, processor overclocking being much more difficult, and you most likely having stock cooling. As for GPU overclocking, there are many utilities online you can check out. The best way to do it is simply search google for "overclocking gpu" and find a reputable source with a tutorial. It'll give you the links, help you assess the risks, and guide you through the process with relative ease.

Most OEMS don't allow BIOS access at all, if you're lucky you will be able to change the time and some very very basic things. Overclocking the GPU is very easy, just move a slider a little bit, hit apply, do some stress tests, rinse and repeat really.

found out how to overclock...but i overclocked quite a bit and not a major advance in fps. i got it working with ATI tools. and 5 ppl on google (various sites) told me not to overclock memory with this tool. could the memory be why im not getting a bid advancement in fps?
