I've been wondering about a particular question for quite a while now...
Network Cards. What are they? What is the use of them?

If anything, would purchasing a new network card increase your internet speed in comparison to an onboard network card?

My friend and I have the same ISPs. The only thing is: he downloads faster than me on average. He usually gets 800 kB/s, while I average at about 600 kB/s. Would the reason behind this be his modem?

The only real major reason (to my knowledge) for upgrading your network card is for LAN transfer speeds.

Better cards can technically be better for download speeds and transfer speed, but very little difference.

600 kb/s on average? I would kill for speeds like that. I have about 50kb/s-100 kb/s on average . my download speed on speedtest.net is 1.9 mb/s :<

I used to get that, now I get around 500kb/s.
