Re: Derren Brown.
He is not mind reading, he clearly states that he does not believe in the ability to do so.
Of course the only way you tobelieve it is to have it actually done to you, but with the amount of similar skeptics out there, not everyone can be impressed.
May I ask if you believe in the effects of hypnotherapy?

Well, he claims he's not a 'mind reader', although his show is called "Mind Reader: The Evening of Wonders", which I guess isn't just a small joke. Anyway, saw the rest of the show, I wish I could get the hour plus of my life back. None of it was convincing. The only entertaining part was the gorilla bit which was well performed - the rest was just doing things with audience members which is too flukey to be classed as real in my mind.
He's effectively a magician. The number on the £10 note thing, the number on the badge, the scroll at the end, it was all well performed etc., but none of it will have been 'real'.

What, so you believe from asking 1 question he managed to work out that a women wrote 'whip' on a piece of paper? I'd be more likely to believe in God than this rubbish.Drofder2004 wrote:Flukey? Re: Derren Brown.
That is indeed how he presented the trick to be. However he spent more time with the woman more than just asking the question It is more likely that he put the idea of choosing whip into the woman's head through suggestion. That is one of the main techniques he uses. Derren brown has done tricks to guess people's pin numbers just through asking questions and looking at someone. You've said you believe in hyponotism, so why don't you believe in physcological tricks?Pedsdude wrote:What, so you believe from asking 1 question he managed to work out that a women wrote 'whip' on a piece of paper?

Re: Derren Brown.
If you can believe in the effects of hypnosis, I fail to understand why you do not believe in the effects of both mental persuasion and manipulation, it is exactly the same thing.
I also do remember, he did hypnotise a woman on stage at our event, but I cannot remember why or the circumstances leading to it :S
I think something to do with making the woman think she can mind read and guess cards. She thought she was getting all the guesses right without seeing the card, but all the cards she guessed were facing her when she was guessing. It was something along those lines.

Either this link is to a actor paid by Derren Brown, or it was someone who was also at one of his shows and has his 'thoughts read'...

Read the bottom of those comments on that link to get a good list of possibly how some of it was done...

Re: Derren Brown.
He brought 10 people on stage, and other than asking her where to stand and saying "I already know what yours is" (or something along those lines), he said nothing to her. I fail to believe he could have put the word 'whip' in her head from such little contact or communication. As with most skeptics, unless he proves it directly to me, it's unlikely I'll believe it.Neon wrote:he spent more time with the woman more than just asking the question It is more likely that he put the idea of choosing whip into the woman's head through suggestion
What about the oracle one at the end? If everything was as it seems, he must have simply been extremely lucky. Particularly with that guy from Uganda.
I don't disagree that he's a good entertainer, he's very skilled at what he does, I just don't find it entertaining because personally I'm a very skeptical person about these kind of things.
