W@W CJ Mod

Well.... :D here goes nothing :)

First off, hi :mrgreen: people may know me from the cod 4 servers or the cod 5 beta one..

K, down to business...

I spoke to pedsdude about some ideas i have that could be implicated into the W@W mod that will save many people loads of time and effort and he said to bring them here.

We've all been on one of the CJ servers on Cod 4, i assume, and have seen some person who's desperate for a higher fps and starts whining, "Can i has cheatz!?! I Needz Teh Higher FPS 4 teh l33t jumpzors!!" or "ADMIN!!! DEVMAP SERVER!! PLZ!!!" or my personal favourite, "Put cheats on admin! I need to do something". The main problem with complying with these requests is the annoyance of the /give all and /noclip commands. They not only give players the ability to completely lag out the server and cause crashes with constant C4, Airstrikes and Helicopters but it also removes the fun of being able to find a glitch and work your way towards it...

So i propose a way of giving the options to increase a person's fps without the constant harassment of admin's or the nasty side effects of giving in and devmapping the server for a round, and to the best of my knowledge it should be possible for both Cod 4 and W@W.




THE QUICK CHAT MENU

The quick menu has been a rather neglected piece of Cod 4 and thus far W@W, because other than when we get bored and start spamming things, it doesn't seem of much use.

Many of you may know of Novemberdobby's Zombie mod and the fun that came with that, it introduced me to the codjumping scene, with everyone looking for ways to get into amazing spots that people couldn't get to you. The mod then changed and started blocking off pathways, so it brought an even better element to the game, finding new ways of getting where you wanted to be. But along with the introduction of blocked off sections of the map, came a new feature.

The Quick Chat Menu now had new options, we could turn a laser on for any of our guns, we could go into third-person mode to see if we were hidden well enough away from any person who came strolling by.

Then popular mods started popping up all over the place, we had Kill3r's K3 Mod which gave the game an overhaul, giving us bullet shields and new weapons and perks, all with things that we could do in the quick chat menu. (The Time Bubble (bullet shield) also doubled as a sweet way of making massive jumps and bounces ;) I managed to clear the whole of Crash)

Then came the next generation Zombie mod, Before The Dawn, now we had an AI controlled enemy and we no longer had to try and reach spots we had never known had existed, now all we had to do was find a safe spot and take out hundreds of advancing zombies, which would stack up if we didn't do anything (due to bad programming maybe?). This mod also had an edited quick chat menu, we could turn the ghillie suit on or off, we could change crosshairs and, to the best of my knowledge, they even developed a flash light.

So after this not-so-brief history of mods I like, that have different quick chat menu options I will get to my point.



THE IDEA


Well as I said the above mods gave you the options to turn lasers on for your guns, or view the game in third person. These two things are actually part of the game, the only problem is they are cheat protected...

This is were the quick chat menu comes into play, there is obviously a way of implementing these cheats so that, without cheats actually activated, you can use them. So why can't we use cheat protected options for jumping/fps performance in the game? It may take a fair bit of coding and work to create the option to toggle these things but in the end wouldn't it be worth it?

The options I would suggest at the bare minimum are /r_fullbright 0/1 and /fx_enable 0/1.

Fullbright helps immensely with improving FPS and by doing /fx_enable 0 we turn off fog, rain, snow, rpg smoke, the list is almost endless and turning all of these things off would free up a fair amount of FPS.

I know that there are people in the codjumper community with graphics cards and performance machines that allow them to get 333 constant on medium to high settings, but i'm not one of those people :). These simply additions to the CJ Mod would make it all that more interesting for the average person, the person who hasn't went out and spent X amount of money on their GPU.

So please take this under consideration and I will gladly help anywhere that I can.

Well, that's just wasted a load of my time if someone's already done it :? but oh well :)

technically r commands are client side as they deal with graphics. Since I was already thinking about making a sound mod for WaW I suppose I could look into some menu setup as well if someone like Drofder does the basic code.

Well I know that the commands i've listed are client side, and i'm pretty sure that i could find someone who knows the code and stuff for it, i could ask dobby actually, i know he's planning a cod 5 zombie mod already, but i may be able to get what we'd need for it off him :)

This has been suggested and accepted.

BUT, it wasn't main priority. Infact, writing out .menu script was not in my interest.
I shall look into coding it in for W@W, as I have a good feeling that CoD4Jumper Mod will be working from day 1 of tools release.

Great :P We could maybe try just putting the codjumper mod into the folder on release? And see if that'll work, it's a slim chance but it's a chance none the less, even if it doesn't work it should reveal some of the features that'll need fixed...

No, the game logic code that calls the codjumper mod will be broken, so I doubt it.

cod ww i have the gcs file for it but atm no one can host the mod so idk if code work or not

Most it i allrdy got,
I made a new cj mod name cj_dm from the start, v1 will be on #4 by tonight

(1) There a admin command "cj_fps 1 or 0" it will make client have a lot more fps(sould)
(2) There is also a big anti cheat in the code http://zclan.co.uk/codjumper/g_gravity.JPG
(3) Also a video mod with best setting i could find
(4) All people have a gold gun (no ammo)

Quick message i have most of the code allrdy just adding ::

cj_fps - for client (allready got it for admin )
cj_thirdperson - for client (allready got it for admin )
cj_laser - for client (allready got it for admin )

I will make a new post when v2 as v1 atm done but need to do one thing also v2 will have the quick message , quick add to favorites..

That is not an anti-cheat, it only watches SERVER variables, if I start a private server, it is not difficult to bypass those variables, or even simpler modify my client side variable.

We tried it in vCoD, CoD2 and CoD4. ;)

Nop m8 the code must be diff,
99.9% that u can not change gravity or any othere anti cheat i added withour getting this..

If u can,

Plz set up server some time and tell me password so i can see, i would say just take a demo and then type cj_mod but u know how to code so that would not be fare

Consider the fact, people recording demos are often, not on a server. You cannot control client commands. If a client wishes to cheat, they will cheat, the only feasible situation is to modify your script and FORCE a client to have a set variable.

This means (like you are already doing with your fps controls), that the clients are unable to choose their own variables and are forced to havea downgraded game just so others on the server can play on their low end systems.

Its called throttling, and you are forcing players to lower their settings, without considering the fact, that they will not know which dvars you have changed, and their only option to get their original full quality settings back is to reset their config.

Trtust me when I said CoDJumper gave this subject much thought.
