Hey guys ive used photoshop too long now (30 days is up lol) and i need some help on GIMP

I know how to do decent effective backgrounds but the trouble is

TEXT!!!!!!!

if someone could please tell me how to make creative text or another program like photoshop which i liked the styles of and i had fireworks i lovee that for banners and please post your stuff
