New PC
So I finally got a pc, my dad just brought it home from work yesterday lol.
CPU:3.0 Ghz P4
GFX Card:Some bullshit Nvidea integrated crap
Ram:Came with 512 mb.
I'ts a HP Compaq so it's in some crappy slimline case, it has 1 PCI Express (16x) Slot, but I found out it can only hold "Half height" graphics cards, I choose the 8600 GT(http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=26441).
So I was wondering, if I bought that card will it run in my computer?.

Re: New PC
Alright cool. I know that setup isn't that great, but the main games I want to play are:CoD1,2,4, CSS, WoW and that's about it really. Will this computer be able to run those games?.Soviet wrote:As long as it is half height yes.

Re: New PC
errrr, your RAM won't be enough for CoD4 and maybe CSS. Your processor might run CoD4 okay, but not with very good graphics. If you have the budget to get some RAM, go ahead and post the model of your motherboard and I can probably find you some for about 40 USD.
for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227231
However, I don't know if that RAM would work for your computer + I don't think NewEgg ships to Australia.

My dad can get ram, he has 2gb or something in his pc, which is the same model as mine I think.Soviet wrote:errrr, your RAM won't be enough for CoD4 and maybe CSS. What fps range would I be looking at if I upgraded my ram and got that graphics card?.

Re: New PC
I would guess a constant 125 on lowest graphics for CoD4, maybe 250 if you're lucky. CoD1 you'd get 333 easy, CoD2 you'd probably be able to get 250 or 333 if you really lowered graphics, CSS would run perfectly and you'd probably get around 100fps, and as for WoW...its graphics suck, you'll be fine.
These are all estimates though, I could be totally wrong. I don't have much experience with the 8600gt, and I can't say my guess as to how CoD4 will run on a single core is accurate as I have never run it on single core.

I was thinking of maybe just buying a new case, and getting a different graphics card. Will a better gfx card make buying a new case worthwhile?Soviet wrote:I would guess a constant 125 on lowest graphics for CoD4, maybe 250 if you're lucky. Re: New PC
I'd say it might increase your fps at max maybe 20. It might be worthwhile, it might not be. It would depend on what graphics card you got instead.
and while I'm at it, the price on this 8600gt is better

Re: New PC
I measured the distance between the back of the case and the first fan, 9 cm gap. I was wondering if anyone on here has an 8600 GT could you please measure it
. I'm guessing the card will fit in my case with no probs, but I wanna be 100% sure before I buy the card.
