New PC!

Post by helium » July 24th, 2008, 8:46 am

Ok, so I'm buying a new PC and I'm in need of some help! I've made a few topics on other forums, but after 2-3 posts it turned into a flame war between which GFX is better..

This is what I'm thinking about buying:

PSU:Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU (Possible to find the same with 50 less W, and possibly a little bit cheaper?)

Motherboard: DFI Lan Party DK X48-T2R Intel X48

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 6MB FSB1333 Boxed Socket 775

RAM: OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 TV-out HDTV DUAL DVI RETAIL PCI Express

~870€ (This is including CPU-cooler and case ofc)

Good rig?

Get rid of the stupid ATI card and it looks pretty good...although I might go with a quad core around 2.6 instead of a 3.1 dual core.

Never. That "stupid" ATI card happens to be the best card on the market atm :P

Updated some of the specs now, should look better.

Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512MB DDR5 TV-out HDTV DUAL DVI RETAIL PCI Express

ZOTAC ZT-98XES2P-FCP GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

That's funny, because I was under the impression that the above linked to 9800gtx is equivalent in almost all categories (except memory where it is actually 500mhz faster) and comes out to a price which is $85 (42.51 pounds) less before rebates. Or, of course, you could go with this one which has a faster core clock and a faster memory clock for quite a bit less. And, what's even better, you don't get the crappy ATI logo on the box which lets you know you got inferior hardware

(aka I don't like ATI)

Befor i decided to upgrade i spoke to the DickHeads at PC world about Graphic Cards, They recon for Gameing the best cards are the Gforce one, they think ATI Suck big time, and thats the workds from a TechGuy..

I myself normaly got for Nvidia GeForce Cards now as ive had problems with ATI cards in the past..

Get a Geforce card like the 9800 as what Soviet said ya be ok there.

No thanks. I've been liking nVidia for a long time now, but ATI seems to be back on the market (or well, they are) with their new cards! The 4870 beats 9800 in many many benchmarks, but it gets beaten in higher resolutions. And the thing is, the 4870 is half the price of a 9800, so buying a 9800 would be the same as shooting myself in the back with a handgun.

I was just a little insecure about my HDD. CPU is very clockable etc, but my HDD seems to suck and I can't decide what to replace it with. Help!
