A very little amount of magnesium can cause temporary blindness, needless to say, burning a metre long strip of magnesium which is coiled around itself gives off a bright enough glow to cause minor temporary blindness (particles and shit on the eye)

i have for a very long time wondered if the camera lense can get flashed by a flashbang? it doesnt seem like it does, but in my opinion that wouldnt make sense.

Depends what you mean by "flashed".  It will obviously see the light, but it won't have the disorientating effects it has on a human.
