1. Are the following phrases familar to you? Please answer "Y" or "N"

y (more likely ABC, pie is more an american version of it, I believe)- as easy as ABC / as pie
y (very commonly used in England, just picked it up) - as fast as lightning
n (heard of 'as sly as a fox', well known simile) - as crazy as fox
n - as weak as a baby / as water / as a cat
n - as proud as Lucifer
n - as bald as a mushroom
n - as friendly as hell
y (both - 'as bright as day' is also used in contrast) - as black / dark as the night
n ('as proud as a lion' is more well known; I use it) - as proud as a peacock
y (my mum told me it when I was younger ;)) - as happy as a sandboy
n - as dead as a doornail
n - as plain as a pikestaff
y (very commonly used in England, just picked it up) - as blind as a bat
y (very commonly used again...) - as cool as a cucumber
n ('larger than life', but i've never used it in this form -->) - as large as life
y (very common) - as thick as thieves
n ('as smooth as silk / a baby's bottom' are ones I've used and are common) - as smooth / brittle as glass

2. Please name the ones you personally would use if necessary.

Pretty much all of the ones I put 'y' next to.

3. Are there any other similar forms you know compared with those in 1.? If so please list
them and explain how it is you know them in this other way (pertaining to your background,
your dialect, your family ties etc.).

Added them accordingly above.

As for my background:
- Upper middle class
- West Midlands English (pretty much no accent)
- Not sure what you mean by 'family ties', but I only really have my direct family; mum, dad, older brother.

4. In order to get an accurate look at the variety of results, please give your age group and
your background on your specific English language background. (American, British, Irish, etc.)

Age group: (copy and make a "*" behind the right line)
*18-24
25-30
35-45
46-55
56-65

Your English language background:
Native.

If you need any more help then let me know :)

Your English language background: From England in the Midlands. My parents and sister are from Birmingham so i have got influences from them. I use alot of slang, speech patterns that people from manchester use. I got that from listening to someone from manchester for 2 years on the radio.

I'm from a middle class family. My dad is from a working class family although speaks with a slightly posh accent. My mum comes from an Irish family.
