Bounce Jump Research.

Post by Drofder2004 » April 16th, 2008, 4:32 am

Just did a quick bit of research into mapping in found some good results:

- Bounce locations must have an angle (from north) between 18 and 38 degrees.
(The top end of this is disputable and may likely be higher).
- The higher you land on the sloped object, the higher the chance of success.
- What the object is, is irrelevant. You are able to bounce off muddy terrain or brick walls.
- The object is not required to be a model.
- Other than angle, the only other accountable factor, is speed. you are required to hit the target fast.
- Hitting the object at its perpendicular angle, will result in more efficient bounces.
- It is possible to bounce by hitting the angle at any angle, but the further from the perpendicular the less successful and less efficient the jump becomes (it is possible to drop from heights of above bloc, but usually, the results are a bounce no higher than a players jump)

Just for note, I posted this here, simply because the thread it was originally started in was in a less populated section of the forum. Not only is this information useful to jumpers, but also useful to mappers.

All tests were done by me, using radiant and my own skill (and because it was my skill, the likelihood of the tests not being 100% is high).

Nice finds :)

As far as I'm aware, there aren't any sloped brick walls in CoD4 (I may be wrong, if so, please tell me!).

There are many 'broken' walls in the game. Any brick that is broken at the right angle is a potential ;)

nice find mate, this really helps me, i have a "not so good" PC

1 GB RAM (DDR2)
Dual Core 1.8 GHz so all in all 3.6 GHz
320 GB S-ATA memory
nVidia GeForce 7500 LE with 256 MB

so not so good, i can get 250 FPS in CoD1 but only about 50 FPS or less in CoD4, if i look up then they get 125 FPS :(

i often play on the CoDJumper.com Server #2 or so, dunno the exact name, its very nice there but always the map-voting is annoying, i know im new to here and this is my first or second post, but it would be nice if the map-voting could be removed, but the player-kick-voting should still be there since there are often blockers who should be kicked!

youre doing a great job here guys, keep it up :)

Just so people who say "they are no good at it", on my test maps, I created a simple straight on jump, to the object rotated at the certain angles. On angle roughly 24-30, I had a 100% success rate, and I am far from being a great jumper.

With a combination of the correct run up angle and the correct angled object, it is unbelievably easy.

I had a go on some stock maps and started finding jumps a little easier, but still no big success.

Yes. When a person is climbing, they have a temporary "bounce spot" on them. That's the gist of it at least.
