Drunk life (previously the 'New mouse?' topic)

Post by Pedsdude » January 11th, 2008, 8:07 pm

I've been having problems with my current mouse (Logitech MX 500) freezing randomly, and having downloaded drivers etc and cleaning it, it doesn't seem to have had an effect.

I'm considering getting the following mouse:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/periphera ... r-Mouse/p3

Any comments / suggestions for other mice to buy? I would preferrably like it to be as close in style to the MX 500 as that's what I'm used to, and the above mouse seems the perfect replacement.

Opinions:

- Get a corded mouse, if you suffer from wire issues, then buy a "bungee" or get a better setup. This way you never suffer from battery loss or signal lag.

- Get a mouse with at least 2 thumb buttons.

- Checking other reviews, the mouse 3 button (scroll-click) is very stiff.

BUT, if you're determined to have cordless, then this is the mouse.

We got the G5 and mx518 and I think that the mx518 is a good choice, with cable, same styling, 1600dpi (which u will never use anyway). The g5 has got weights to adjust the weight of the mouse and a low resistant mouse cable, but thats not really worth the extra money, oh ye, it also has 2000dpi, but as mentioned before, I never use that much.

Ye, basicly what I said, I dont think that more then 10% of the ppl who have a mouse with high dpi actually use a dpi over 1200

I have a G9 Laser Mouse, and it's amazing!!

I do suggest you atleast consider it..

It comes with two different mouse shells, for comfort choice.

Why get a corded mouse? It's been proven in the past that wireless mice lag slightly and are therefore unsuitable for gaming, but according to the review that is no longer the issue, and (if I read correctly) this is actually faster than a normal corded mouse.

I agree about the two thumb buttons, having a 'back' button but no 'forward' button would prove frustrating.

The scroll click being stiff wouldn't really bother me that much. I only really use it for throwing grenades, and surely it can't be that stiff.

I'm not determined to get cordless, it just seemed that this is the best option for me to move on from the MX 500 as it is highly rated and is pretty much the exact same shape.
KillerSam wrote:Deffo wired
Deffo not a microsoft mouse (the scroll wheel does not scroll is 'stages' and is smooth, also not very responsive as it moves sideways)

Also - try changing hte USB port that your current mouse plugs into ;) And if its plugged into the front of your computer, put in the back e.t.c.
Why deffo wired? Logitech isn't a MS mouse (is it?).

I've already tried changing the USB port but it appears that has nothing to do with the problem - I think my mouse is just generally fucked.

The middle mouse click can be too stiff, my friend has a mouse, and it really takes a second or 2 to press the middle mouse button, just because u have to 'prepare' for it, because its so hard to click.. Anyway, cordless mice run out of power (during gaming if u dont charge them regulary) and the mice are heavy, which is not very handy when ur gaming.

As Ai said...

- Batteries could run out if not keeping an eye on them
- Batteries equal more weight. Now I like a heavy mouse, but batteries add too much.
- The review gives an opinion, not fact. Just because it says there is no lag, doesn't mean it can't happen. Corded guarantees it wont happen.
- Do not bother with extremely high DPI, anyone using 3200 while gaming is only doing so to "brag". I use a "Razer Copperhead" and it is on 1600 DPI and a very low polling rate. If I set this any higher then I can do a 1080 by moving the mouse half a centimetre.

Also, the mouse does not have "rubber" grips, which make a difference in comfort.

Go for something in a suitable price range, that fits your desk, wired/wireless, laser, 1600 minimum DPI and with more than one side button.

In terms of batteries, to quote the review:
I’m sure some of you – at least if you own the MX1000 – know that it can be annoying when you’ve forgotten to charge the mouse - you come to use it and the red little light flashes up telling you that you’re out of luck. Logitech has solved this problem by supplying the G7 with two removable Li-Ion battery packs. These are flat squares that slot into the bottom of the mouse. To remove the battery you press the eject button and it just pops right out.

In terms of weight:
MX500 = 481 g, G7 = 599 g - heavier, yes, but not by too much, I'd say.
Finally! Make cordless gaming a reality with interference-resistant 2.4 GHz wireless, experience pixel precision, blazing speed with laser tracking, 2000 dpi resolution; keep your advantage with rechargeable battery packs!!!
The Logitech MX610 Laser Cordless Mouse redefines performance with ultra-precise laser tracking on more surfaces and interference-free 2.4 GHz digital cordless technology. As the world's first smart mouse, it extends battery life by turning on and off with your computer, in sync with your PC, detects and eliminates wireless interference and alerts you when the batteries are low.
I'm not too bothered about the price. Yes, it's expensive, but not out of the boundary. The MX 518 is a cheaper option:
