because it fires quickly, one shot kill, wide spread to kill, and its way overused by noobs

It is a weapon of choice for noobs yeh, just like the Bazooka in MoH:AA >_>

But you have some people who are highly skilled with it when used properly.

Being "high skill" with the shotgun takes relativly no skill though ;/ Aim in the vague direction of the enemy, bunny hop abit and left click...thats it ;/

Sometimes it's necessary because of being able to use the smoke for tactical purposes.
