Im not saying shredding, im talking about fast picking, so shredding is part of that yes, but also just pure alternative picking.

Which Paul Gilbert doesn't do ;/ I mentioned the string skipping technique he uses

Obviously you havn't heard most of his stuff then ;/ Also, when he is shredding, its actually got feeling (something which Satch and Petrucci don't achieve) and it is technically amazing. I suggest you watch the 7 minute solo video if you havn't already see it. Some of the licks in that are genius..
