Have a jump map that we don't have on our site? Let us know!

community jump maps anyone?

Post by Rezil » July 22nd, 2007, 6:06 pm

I recently got this idea. What if we alltogether made community jump maps. By that I mean:

What if one of us supplies a theme, room measurmens(can be changed into skybox coordinates or something simmilar). Then anyone who wants to participate makes a 'section' of the whole map. For example if the theme is 'Tropical' then every participant would make a section on the theme of 'Tropical'. The one who supplied the theme would then get all of the .map files, integrate them into one big map(with hallways that say for example: 'now entering ai carambas section' or something simmilar to connect the pieces into a whole. The map would then be played and evalueted by the community. The section that gets the most votes wins, the author of the section would supply a new theme for the next month/two months etc.

Some other quick notes:

-The participants who make the sections would also need to make exits and entries to their section to avoid messes where the one who puts the peices together doesn't know where his section starts and ends.

-I don't really know if scripting would be a good idea. Mainly because it would create a whole mess in the .gsc. The same goes for custom sounds.

-The levelshot would be a problem also I think. Maybe just include the name of the map(theme suppliers decision? dunno) and the names of the participants.

-Also, for outside settings one skybox texture would be provided, also by the theme supplier.

I think that about covers it. If this is the wrong forum for discussion, moderators please move it. :) I think the idea has potencial(for cod2, cod1 optional) 'cause there aren't really that much maps released for cod2 anyway. So I thought since noone really has the time or enthusiasm(bad english :)) to make a whole map, why not create just a small peice of it. It would be a community effort, from jumpers to jumpers.

So, what do you think? Comment/Discuss away!

so not like a start - end map, but you can choose anything you want? ever played ralfunpark on wolfenstein? that has different sections. when you complete, new sections appear.

I guess it could work like that also. But then the mapper would also have to state the difficulty of the section(220-225 jumps, 240+jumps etc.) OR it could be a 'start-to-end' map with one mapper making the start section and another mapper the end section. Those sections could also be made by the theme supplier. I dunno, do you think it's a good idea to begin with? That's what I wanna know.

about 20 sections:

in the first zone (all players work together) there could be easy strafes (teleport to easy strafes), maze, etc about 4 in the first section. once all 4 have been completed, theres the next few and so on.

Dunno how many people want to enter this. There are a lot of good mappers around: nm, tevy, soviet, jimbo, creep, lev etc. so if they want to enter this it would be good. I'm thinking something like this:

Image

Where the start and end sections are worked out by participants and host-theme supplier.

CBA lol

id just have it as a room with about 5 teleporters to mini jump maps each with a different type of jumping(eg a gap section, slide boost, nade etc,) (5 mappers each doing a section)

all are very easy.

Once all are completed (press trigger at end of each mini map) and a wall slides open revealing a harder set of 5 maps. after 4 of these rooms there are little 'boss' rooms which are very hard.

After completion of a mini map you can still play it if you want.

I hope you guys understand me?

Yeah but first I want to know if people will enter. So far we've got three/four participants. Dunno if it will work. Two make a start/end section and one/two make middle sections? :?

I tested some jumps to see how big certain jumps are possible.. So i got pretty good understanding of possibillity for a hard section, think i can make a short hard section..

Ok I'll make the first topic then. The time to send your .map file via PM is one month.

Rez, if you want, you can send the .map files to me to be put together and fixed up if there are any misplaced brushes or textures that need caulking and such
