Trick of the eye, deception. It follows a similar deception. If you were to be in a car, and look down at the ground while travelling at 100mph, it would look faster than if you were flying in a plane at the same speed.
Flicking the grenade, does nothing, as the grenade is not actually flicked... When you let go of the button, the grenade is "thrown" by the engine, not by the player. The engine calculates the angle, and the distance and all the crap in the weapon files, comes up with a trajectory and sends it in that direction. The only possible reason for it going further is exploiting the engine, by making it think you are going faster (like strafe jumping), but even then the difference would be minor.
The reason as I explained above of why it looks faster is simply because you are moving faster. It hars to explain, so I will do so with yet another stupid example...
If you look directly at a conveyor belt while its moving, it will look slow, but if you look at it while moving your head sideways, it will look quicker
