Comments/suggestions/criticisms please.

Tbh I think text is definately my weakest part of graphics design - any ideas to improve it?

Quite nice Peds. Well the background looks nice but the font kinda soils it, but you can work on that.

Agree.

Also, the white is very "bright". It needs to be toned down a little (maybe some faded diagonal scan-lines).

looks nice, think the text needs to be blended in a bit more color-wise into the picture (use blue instead of white on the gradient) and perhaps make it less dominant over the image, but overall very nice

Ah, that's what I thought he said, although I'm not entirely sure how to do it  I usually do a halftone pattern and change the opacity/layer properties.

open photoshop

File -> New with the dimensions: 3x3 pixels (make sure the background is transparent)
Click OK

create a diagonal line, when finished click Edit -> Define Pattern
name it whatever you want (scanline would be easier to find it :p)
click

open the sig/piece-'o-art you want the scanlines on
make a selection of where you want it, go to edit -> fill
a menu will pop-up, choose Pattern in the drop-down menu
and choose your freshly made scanline and press OK
click

fiddle a bit with the layerstyles and fill-settings ;)

(on your sig, I put blending mode on soft-light

The line tool used to be good but I don't like it on CS2 now, seems a bit crappy imo
