CoDJumper shop help needed!

Post by Pedsdude » April 5th, 2006, 9:31 pm

I hope to be able to sell t-shirts on the website in the near future, however I need to contact the producers about whether having CoDJumper banners with soldiers from Call of Duty is allowed or not (seeing it could break copyright laws etc).

To be honest, I know bugger all about what jobs the different companies have in producing the game, and which I should contact about the matter. I emailed Infinity Ward a while back and got no reply - should I be emailing Activision instead? If so, has anyone got an email address I should contact about it?

Any help would be appreciated - the sooner this is resolved the sooner I can start selling CJ t-shirts etc :)

Suppose contact Activion or Infinity Ward about the soliders. But like you, I know nothing about it. But I'd be happy to do some graphics if you want?

Contact Activision as they are the producers (IW, only make the game).
And as with Jammy, I will happily cnotribute (get some good renders and that, and maybe a design or two :P)

i dont know its if the rights are the same or similar as for the music industry (plagiarism)

but i'll take that all the pictures used, are going to be retouch,
so if you where to take a character and give it green eyes instead of brown.
then technically it isn't one of they'r character's and you dont need to contact anyone.

if you do wish to contact Activision, maybe this helps

Righty ho - thank you for the replies. I shall try contacting Activision to see if they ignore me like Infinity Ward did ;)

I was thinking of using one or two of the banners from the site (Titan's great red one - http://www.codjumper.com/images/cjbanner2.jpg) and others that people make (supposing they are good enough).

*EDIT*

Email I have sent:
Hello,

I run a website, CoDJumper.com, which specialises in jumps and tactical grenade throws for Call of Duty. I was planning on setting up a shop to sell products such as t-shirts, mouse mats etc, however I was wondering if I am legally allowed to use banners including images from Call of Duty (example: http://www.codjumper.com/images/cjbanner2.jpg on the front of a t-shirt). I would greatly appreciate any information on the matter, I contacted Infinity Ward about it but received now reply.

Regards,
Phil
And so the waiting game begins...

Ah bullshit... ah well they get the picture :P

Got a reply:
Hello,

# For information on licensing any of Activision's titles or associated intellectual property content, please contact our main telephone number at (310) 255-2000
Pretty much useless as I guessed. I sent a reply back saying "I live in the UK, and am not prepared to pay for a phone call, especially overseas!".

tbh I don't think there would be a problem with the images from cod on the t-shirts...the only way it could affect them is perhaps more people buying the game :p
But if you want to be absolutely sure, then it might be worth the phone call...or ask around different forums i'm sure someone will know about this stuff.

Think I will go ahead with it then. As Leveller said, if I slightly edit it then it's theoretically no longer theirs... After all, it is just pixels ;)

I'll make a topic in the graphics section for people who want to submit designs.

As long as your design doesn't show any "logos" or any copyrighted images, then you should be ok. But be careful... copyright theft is an evil thing :/
