CoD2 Crashing

Ok, every time i attempt to start up Call of Duty 2 MP it happens like this:

picture with call of duty 2 comes up
screen goes black
start menu is seen at the bottom
game minimizes

then, when i go to click on the icon to bring it back up to full size it crashes with a fatal directx error. I have tried running it in safemode, and i have installed the latest drivers to my video card, any suggestions?

remove all mods?

even the almighty drofder ha sbeen left without any other thing to say

thanks for the help, ill reinstall the next time i have time (the weekend)
