Post by Soviet » October 19th, 2005, 12:06 am

ok, before i go reinstalling call of duty i wanna ask this...

My cod and uo sp work fine, but every time i go into multiplayer, after i go into the game, and select a weapon, the game crashes to desktop. It was working yesterday, since then i have installed no more applications, no more mods that i am aware of, and have not changed/added any hardware

specs:

Dell 2400
2.1 ghz
1024mb RAM
Nvidia 5200 256mb

i think its spyware...i just got uo multiplayer to work on mp_cassino tdm. ever since i downloaded a no-cd crack for battlefield 2, my computer has been getting worse, but im kinda stuck now even though i got cod workin again (though i dont know how)

how do i get out of this situation..here are my problems

I can not shut down my computer besides holding the button on the cpu until my comp crashes
anti-spyware exe is missing
anti-virus exe is missing
every time i try to install/reinstall/uninstall anti-spyware software, my computer freezes
system restore doesnt work because i can't shut down my computer properly so it can never be successful

any tips?...

i dont think it would be spyware, do u get any error messages? or does the game just close when u try to play?, i would try removing any custom pk3 files, that includes maps or mods, try putting them somewhere else, and if it works. put them back 1 by 1 til it dont work, then u will know which file was the problem..otherwise you might have to reinstall

Sounds like you have executed a virus... Like an executable virus, this occurs often with cd cracks/shareware/proxy servers. I would say get rid of the new file you downloaded, run an anti virus check, & update your spyware.

That may not be the case, which would be a good thing, but thats what it sounds like to me.

If not, i would talk to your anti spyware provider. And or, check up on any other new files acquired by your pc. Some of the cache files can cause problems like this..

you obviously didnt read my post carefully murphy...it said that i can not use anti virus or anti spyware because the executables for the files cannot be found and every time i try to reinstall or install a different kind of anti-spyware my computer freezes

and luke, multiplayer worked when i made my own server, just not when i joined a server on the internet

Use an online virus checker (trend micro have 1)

Also, do a manual scan. simply go into C:/ and look for folders that you didnt create or are not M$ folders. Crap viruses do not hide themselves very well.

And advice, do not download No-CD exe files straight from the web. The sources are unreliable. Use p2p and virus scan before touching..

yeah try what drofder said, and if you try to install a new antivirus make sure you're disconnected from the internet first, and maybe try to install in safe mode if its crashing :?: u dont wanna go without a AV for long coz it could fuck up pretty quick.

What if you run windows in safemode and try to install the spyware software then (hijackthis, spybot, adaware) ?
Maybe that works
