When you are placed in a situation where either you die or he dies - what do you choose?
Make that decision on a daily basis and you start to enjoy the death of the enemy. The more enemies that die, the less chance you have of dying yourself.

I can assure you, the opposite scenario pans out the same way. They celebrate the deaths of soldiers just as much as our soldiers celebrate the deaths of them.

That isn't a justification or an excuse. Not holding a person accountable for their actions because of a circumstance they may or may not be in is unheard of in any other circumstance, why should it be any different in the military? Furthermore, they were not placed in that situation, Every person there made a conscious decision to be put in that situation.

I can understand your point, but I personally think this occupation is one that has its exceptions - and there is no reason why some things should not have exceptions. War can change people - and being under gun fire can change people instantly. Fearing for your life is something nobody ever wants to experience.

Fair enough that they chose the occupation, but not everyone has much choice. If you weight up having a military career or living rough and not knowing when your next meal is - a lot of people will sign up.

If we lived in a world without the chance of war it would be great, but until that day someone needs to do the political dirty work.
