Cod4 PC Help with Punk Buster

Hello Iam new to Cod 4 on PC and just downloaded it. When i try and join games I get this message. PunkBuster kicked player 'SmokinFrenzy' (for 0 minutes)... RESTRICTION: service communication failure: PnkBstrA.exe Anybody have any ideas how IU can solve this problem. Thank you

With downloading I assume you mean that you got it illegal?

Buy the game. It's relatively cheap, and still played a lot.

No not illegal its all legit i downloaded it from steam

I used to have this problem a lot on my old PC, you want to try and go to evenbalance.com and update punkbuster manually. There is a program to download somewhere, you run it and select Call of Duty 4, and it should re-install all the punkbuster software. That fixed it (partially) for me, although when I fps lagged I often got kicked due to that error.

Make sure you add it to the exceptions in Windows Firewall / any other firewalls you may be using.

Thanks for the answers but still nothing. Is it me or when you install punkbuster set up and you add game etc once you close punk buster theres no way of opening it up again instead of running pbsetup again ?

Punkbuster should automatically run in the background (without you realising it's running unless you open up task manager) once you start up CoD4.

I think you haven't installed the punkbuster 'services'

You need 2 installer files (Google them and download it:)
1. pbsvc.exe - This will installl the punkbuster services that run in the background.
2. pbsetup.exe or zip (depends) - this updates the pb core files in the cod4 folder.

If you have done these correctly. and restarted your pc, your problems should be solved.
