Help with improving my pc

Post by iTz_JVIaNiiC » December 24th, 2011, 1:12 am

Hey, I was wondering if someone could tell me how I can improve my pc so i can run on 250 fps on mid/high graphics settings on cod4. At the moment i get around 125 on low/mid graphics setting. My current PC specs are:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

RAM: 3GB

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS

Operating System: windows vista

System Type: 32 Bit

If someone could reply as soon as possible that would be greatly appreciated as with it being Christmas on Sunday so i'll have some extra money to spend.

Thanks for your time
:D

First of all, get rid of vista and get a 64-bit operating system.

Second, I'd say get a better GPU, and if you have the money for it and are willing to spend a little more on upgrading, then consider upgrading your CPU too.

Edit:

Also make sure when you upgrade, your PSU is able to handle all the specs.

ATI Radeon HD 6770 is a nice card, I don't own it but I've also considered buying it, it could defenitly reach a steady 250.
Also, if you have a little more to spend, consider buying a ATI Radeon 6950/6970. Both great cards.

Price HD 6770 : $100 - $150 (Do some research on where to get it cheaper.)
Price HD 6950/6970 : $200 - 300 (Same as above, do research.)

Ok, so if i upgrade to a 64 Bit operating system and upgraded to a ATI Radeon HD 6770, i should then be able to reach 250 fps on mid graphics and like 333 on low?

Upgrading to a 64-bit isn't neccesary to gain more FPS, but imo it's more usefull because if you ever want to upgrade your RAM, then you'll need a 64-bit system anyway (since 32-bit OS only supports max. 4GB)

And about the ATI Radeon, yes this will defenitly give you a steady 250 on med-high settings.
Even though I still recommend a FPS config, because then you'll have no fps drops at all.

But make sure your Motherboard supports the GPU, otherwise theres no use upgrading ;).

forget all the recommendations to use a ATI. You have a decent Intel Quad. Should be allways used with a Nvidia Card.
Your CPU can easy handle the Geforce 400 series..so i recommend a 470 GTS or similar..for the 500 series you may need a better CPU

and about the FPS.. 333 on highest settings with AA on shouldnt be a problem with a 4xx. Your only probblem is the 9500gs

and i think you need a new PSU. The 9500 is a LED-Lamp compared to a 350 Watts 470GTX

First you recommend a GTX then you recommend a GTS, it's a big difference. And where do you think you want to buy a 470 GTS?

Maybe you should read this before giving people any "advice": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce#Nomenclature

EDIT:
And why shouldn't he buy an ati? Do you have any good reasons or do you just like the Nvidea logo more?

GTS/GTX. Nvm everybody know what i mean with 470 or 500. I recommended a 470 GTX obviously because there is no GT/GS/GTS

Yea i have a good reason. Nvidia Update his drivers much faster than ATI. And ATI has obviously a contract with AMD to optimize their drivers for their CPUs. Nvidia Drivers plus Intel CPUs allways ftw
I wouldnt say im a Nvidia Fanboy. I tried both brands several times. Nvidia allways win for me. The latest Nvidia driver was 3 days ago...nothing heard abt cataclyst for a while

Ati has a much better power for money ratio than nvidia. If you have the money, go for a gtx 460, 470, 560, 560ti, but if your looking for a cheap , but powerful card, Ati is the way to go. the 6770, is actually not as powerful as the 5770, but it will definately get 333 on codjumper servers with fullbright. If your looking for a bit more, the 6800 series cards, the 6850 and the 6870 are probably the best power/ money ratio of any cards on the market. The next step up would be the 6950/6970. Also alot more expensive, but if your spending this much money, i would go for an nvidia card at this pricepoint.
