Re: Steam hacked
I pay with paypal, that's through a different site so they don't have access to that right?

Re: Steam hacked
So in your world,
Fanboy = analyzing multiple aspects of a situation
Reasonable Analysis = taking a hasty generalization of a single perspective and discounting all other facts and observations
Steam is bad because they got hacked? I suppose New Orleans is bad because they got hit with a hurricane, or the World Trade Center is bad because terrorists blew it up. New Orleans has bad people in it, the World Trade Center was a center for greedy capitalists. Those points don't change the fact that some asshole attacked a system that was providing a free service to people. If I'm a fanboy of Steam then you're the fucking Hitler of Steam.

Possibly the funniest analogy of the situation ever.Soviet wrote:Steam is bad because they got hacked? 1. Steam is not bad, nobody has said that, the point is that they failed to protect data.
2. Steam is a company, it has many departments. Only one of those departments failed.
3. Companies that store data that could be worth MORE than the company itself, have a duty of care to protect that data.
4. Stolen data cannot be recovered. This is not a stolen passport, this is data, it can be copied and distributed worldwide quickly.

This reminds me of the situation involving 'micropayments' and you thinking Valve would never stoop to that level...
Wake up, this is a company that makes a lot of money from us indirectly. They may be a great company but that does not make them immune from criticism when something goes wrong.

At what point have I said that there should be no criticism? The only thing I've commented on is the absolute lack of any other response by you and KS except for said criticism.
My point stands. I apologize if it's too hard to understand, but it's probably just best to let it go...kind of like my high opinion of Oxford.Killersam wrote:Here is my massive fuck you to steam.

The overzealous defence is a-kin to you saying there should be no criticism.Soviet wrote:At what point have I said that there should be no criticism? The only thing I've commented on is the absolute lack of any other response by you and KS except for said criticism.

All my criticisms are directed at the security of Valve and its admitted failing, yet you defend Steam like I was personally attacking Gabe himself.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Re: Steam hacked
Steam is still an amazing service. The amount of discount I got from games is sick.

Re: Steam hacked
Internet and credit card fraud is at an all time high, and yet when you are told they had access to a database with credit cards (albeit, encrypted), we are happy to simply 'change our password' and continually ignore the fact the company failed to protect the data.x0ozero0x wrote:Pointless argument, just shut up and change your password...
