cod4 start up

When i try to start cod4 up, the logo appears then it goes to the black screen. Then it goes back to the desktop with a black square about the size of the cod4 logo.

There are some issues running CoD 4 multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. If you have a RealTek(TM) onboard sound card and Windows(R) Vista you should try removing your sound card drivers and allow Windows Vista to install it’s default sound drivers. Please make note of the make and model of your sound card prior to removing it in order to aid in reinstallation at a later date.
 
To remove your sound card drivers do the following:
 •Open the control panel link from the start menu
 •Check the programs and features tool to see if your sound card drivers are listed here
 •If they are not open the system tool in the control panel
 •Click on the device manager task on the left
 •Locate your sound card in the list, it should be in the sound, video, and game controllers section
 •Right-click on the sound card name and select Uninstall.
 
If you have a Sigmatel® onboard sound card you will need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from www.dell.com. Please navigate from the dell homepage to support, your make and model computer, and look for a sound card update.
 
If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.

Also, this happened after i tried to start a server. the cod4 console sat for a while and i came back and tried to start the game, it did this.

You seem to get a lot of problems. What the hell are you doing with your CoD4?

The only problem I ever had was punkbuster, had to manually install it.

If you have the problem when you start CoD4 and you think it starts up. But it just goes to this black square on your desktop. Reinstall. I have no clue of what the cause of this problem is. I did stuff in windows firewall. Nothing. I posted a topic on the CoDjumper forums and got a few solutions but they didnt work. I did things in the call of duty 4 directory folder, and it didnt help. So if you have this problem. Just back up your saved game, config's ect. and reinstall. It fixed it for me.
