ping question

Post by joethecouch1 » August 19th, 2011, 2:28 am

I was playing promod and i needed to walk my dog so i went to spec mode. Before I left my ping ranged in the 100s to the 200s.. And i come back and i join defence and my ping was in the 50s. then 70s then 90s then 100s the 200s and it stayed in the 200s.. My internet server is 100 miles away. Is it to far away or is a computer problem.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

It's based on a few things. Distance from your internet supplier (can't remember the proper name- internet link or something), distance from the server that you're playing on.

The fact that it was ranging from 50-200 would probably mean that there was some kind of problem on your end (not necessarily a problem, but you (or other family/internet users) may have been downloading which interfers with your ping).

It is not able physical distance by wire distance. If your ISP is deciding to route you around the world before you get to the server, you are gonna get a shit ping...

For example, I traced a ping to one of our American servers, it went to Chicago and bounced around a while, then New York, then Georgia. A lot of miles covered.

This could definately be a problem cause he would take bandwith away from you.
If you encounter this problem again, call your dad and ask him if he just logged in ....which would explain your ping going up.
