Well I see I pretty much failed, this was probably not the best way to introduce people to the show...
Cool summed it up best, "after giving the show a chance, I've really become engrossed in it", but you have to do that from your own free will, without anyone asking you or anything. Or maybe this has nothing to do with it, I dunno...
I personally watched it to understand the meme-side of the whole thing, that sort of kept me going, it didn't really grew on me till the later episodes, but I'm starting to push it again so I'll just stop now

Also maybe I wasn't clear on this, I just *started* watching it for that reason, now my love for this show has nothing to do with memes.

To enjoy this you have to fall in one of the following groups:

1 - Target audience (probably 4-8 year old girl)
2 - Someone who saw some memes and wanted to watch it because 4chan referenced it. And after watching it will continue to watch it until 4chan stop giving a shit about ponies and move on to something new.

There is NO appeal in this to an adult audience beyond a reasonable amount of fascination.
You would not watch this hoping for a continuous storyline, an epic twist and a final happy ending.

The story is not designed to be engrossing, the story is an EXTRA to the actual point of the cartoon. The point of the cartoon is the heavy moral burden of telling children about friendship, loyalty and 'being good'. The rest of the story line is just a way of reinforcing the morals.

Those of you who are enjoying it, will simply stop watching it when 4chan stop caring about it. You are trapped in a meme culture where the simple creation of a meme can change your personal habits.

I don't like it because 4chan likes it, I like it because it's a good show. Sure, it has a lot of friendship and loyalty shit in it, but I tune a lot of that stuff out. I couldn't give a shit about the memes that spawned off it (or memes in general), the only real reason I even go on 4chan are for those "You Laugh, You Lose" threads. But anyway, why can't an adult male enjoy the show, it's just some of our personal tastes. It's the same reason some people like certain types of music, like dubstep for example, I can't see how anyone could listen to that shit for more than 5 seconds, but apparently people do, and I don't care, as long as they don't blast the shit as loud as they can wanting to see if they can destroy their subwoofer. I have plenty of adult friends (they're 18-25) who like the show, and they don't even go on 4chan. Not everyone thinks the same way. Besides, how is this any different than a girl watching Family Guy or something like that, sure it doesn't matter anymore because a lot of girls do watch that show now, so it's pretty well accepted, but the show was still meant for adults.
