My Little Pony - Seriously!?

Post by MasterThomy » August 2nd, 2011, 3:50 pm

What is this all about you may ask...it's about My Little Pony: Friendship is magic (MLP:FiM).
And not those cartoons from the 90's, this is the recent (2010) version, and it's completely different from those.

I know from experience it's hard to get past the fact "It's My Little Pony, a show for little girls, no way I'll ever watch that!", but at least try for now.

Why do I even bring it up? Well, it's fairly new (~10 months) and only airing in Canada/USA, so most of you probably haven't heard of it yet...now you have.
Well actually, if you've been browsing the web a lot recently, you may have come across a lot of MLP related stuff (like my avatar) popping up on many sites, and spreading. It got hard for me to just ignore them, so i gave the show a try...I regret nothing.

MAJOR EDIT: For anyone who might stumble upon this in the future, I wasn't really subtle about this the first time around, so I changed it, just so you know...

I don't say this is the best cartoon ever made, maybe in it's own category from recent cartoons (so not anime or w/e).
I think it's unique because of the fact that MLP is usually associated with being girly and crap (no offense), and it's surprisingly good compared to what you think it would be.
So in my opinion it's well worth your time to watch the whole first season at least once (atleast if you have enough free time, it's ~9 hours altogether, which is not that much btw).
You might get hooked on it, you might not, probably no way to tell.
And still if you don't there are a lot of good music/parody videos you might enjoy associated with the show...
So ye that's all i wanted to say really...

Here's a link to a playlist on youtube that has all current episodes in HD:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA1CE788FE4AE0E13
(I recommend starting with either the pilot (ep. 1-2), or with episodes 4/7/9, if you're more skeptical)

Have fun.

Havn't really got time to be getting into new programmes, already spend too much time not working as it is. I did some searching and was quite amazed that this show is actually so popular though, took me by surprise. However I will not be watching it so can't give my opinion, but each to their own.

I shall relish your opinion and will give it a chance.

I never thought a day would come where I would sit and watch an episode of "My Little Pony".
:P

Edit:

Its official, the internet has just become... gay.

Perseverance does not pay off. Although I must admit the animation style is great, the concept of ponies is just gay.

The best cartoon in recent years by a long shot.

Sorry you didn't like it, I guess you gave it a fair chance, it's not for everyone obviously. :D
And ye I watched the Avatar anime, I love that too it's pretty epic, but in a whole other category.

I honestly don't get it, why does it have such a big fan base? It seems like something a five year old girl would like. Also its just like any other cartoon, on any kids channel nowadays. Is this serious or are the "Brony-s" trolling?

Given what Sam & Drofder said, I cba to watch it. I'm not a massive fan of animated series anyway, unless they're comedies (e.g. Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park), so it's extremely likely I'll like a 'normal' cartoon show.

I used to hate seeing people post ponies on certain boards I'd go on, mainly /b/, but after giving the show a chance, I've really become engrossed in it, I really dig the art style for it, along with the voice acting and animation.
