mp_insight rating

Post by MotiionzzHD » July 18th, 2011, 10:27 pm

savior would like his map rated as its determining if hes going to make a new map for CJ's or not... so i thought i would make this topic pointing out that when the CJ admins get spare time to rate his map.

Why would the CJ rating determine whether or not he makes more maps? Surely the user rating would be of more value as to whether or not a large number of people enjoy playing his maps, as opposed to the few people within the CJ team who actually bother to rate maps these days?

Besides, a low rating can also mean that he needs to imrove, and if he does that, he will earn a bigger rating! (Probably).

For the sake of the thread:

+ Neat & Tidy
+ Some innovative jumps
- Maze
- Mantle
- Lightgrid / Lighting
- Too few textures

3.5/5

What If's.
Remove the maze, the mantle and fix lighting = 4/5
A bit more design in terms of texture, less box-like structures, something a little more than 'map' (eye-candy) = 4.5/5
Some scripting = 5/5

Its invisible and without a walkthrough, how would you know it is there?

Because I am a fairly awful CoD4 jumper, I rate it based on potential issues I see in the walkthrough, such as direction and visibility. How clearly your map flows in terms of direction and how visible the next jump is. If a jumper hs to fall 1000 units to hit a bounce that leads him to a floating platform, that will be considered bad direction and visibility.

So, with no clear indication of the existance of a mantle being present, it becomes bad visibility.

Just for reference, I also rate the map on mapping quality, texturing, ambience and innovation.
Mapping quality is simply how well the map 'looks' made (as I cannot see the .map, its all about what can be seen).
Texturing is about how well the textures are used.
Ambience is mostly about lighting, but themed maps may add some sounds.
Innovation is many things, new jumps, scripted events, themes, interaction, etc.

Also, I automatically demerit any map with a maze. no map with a maze will ever get about 4/5 in my ratings, this is also the same for poor usage of any kill-triggers.

Indeed, we automaticly rated maps with mazes already 1 star less. It's more like a half one now though. There was one map which had 2 mazes in it... Meh!

I was originally going to mention that one, I just didn't want to seem self centered.
