im really not a apple fanboy, i use windows side of my pc much more than the mac side, but my dads everyday job is fixing computers etc and he says that generally, windows pc's are usually made with poorer materials and quality. also theyre are MUCH more prone to get viruses etc and have many more problems.

Why are Macs less prone to infection?

Unlike Windows, Mac OS X applications don't share a common registry. Mac OS X applications use individual preference files, thus the types of global configuration changes which enable so much of Windows malware is simply not as feasible on a Mac. Further, root access is needed in order for malware to interact with other programs (i.e. steal passwords, intercept transmissions, etc.).

The design is different, that doesn't make it harder, simply different. Since most viruses are designed for PC that design of virus does not work on a Mac. That doesn't mean that it is harder to make viruses for Macs, it just means people haven't bothered to try because no one of value uses Macs. Difference in operating system design means difference in approach, not difference in difficulty.

Oh, also, the virus argument is fucking retarded. I haven't gotten a virus using Windows in about 5 years. The only reason Mac users argue that point is because they have no fucking idea how to properly use a computer, so they are more prone to viruses. Anyone with a half decent IQ can avoid getting viruses, regardless of operating system.
