Can't run CoD4 Multiplayer?

I keep getting a DirectX error.

DirectX encountered unrecoverable errors.
Please check Readme

I tried searching but I can't find any resolutions.

Weird error some people have, try plugging a microphone into a socket on your computer.

Its some error with CoD4 that they never fixed, on some systems if you don't have a mic plugged in it won't run. (There is another way to get around it, somewhere in Windows settings you can change an option that makes it think a microphone is plugged in or something.. either way that fixes it aswell try googling it).

I had this error on Black Ops. i solved.
If you have antivirus calling antiVir - delete it and rejoin to cod4.

I believe (Not 100% sure) I had this error on Black Ops. I updated my drivers and it was gone.

How about start with the basics and make sure you have installed the version of directX that came with the game...
Then install/update drivers.
Then run look at the other possibles, stereo, antivirus...
