Happiness...

Post by Drofder2004 » October 2nd, 2010, 8:47 pm

... is always an emotion shown by someone who is right in their predictions.

I called it and it wasn't long before it was going to happen.

They may not be doing it now, they may even be the last to do it, but I would happily place money on the eventual charge for Valve DLC.
Yes, Valve are SELLING items for TF2.

Now, there are some small things to point out which seperate this DLC from others:
- It is user content and the creater gets a cut of the sale
- Most items are not exclusive paid DLC items, they can be crafted or randomly found
- There are a few items which are exclusive, but they are only cosmetic

BUT, no matter how much you sugar coat the good points, the fact is, Valve are now doing what a lot of people said they would never do, and that is sell additional content.

Not most items, all items. It was also a user requested feature. It is in no way mandatory to receive any of the content available.

All DLC is optional?

I have never suggested that they were mandatory (or ever would be), my argument has always been that Valve are a company that are in this industry for profits and they will one day, start selling DLC to those with more money than time (or pateince). The majority of this is a cosmetic productions (such as with WoW and selling 'pets') but it is a source of income that was suggested by the thousands of Valve lovers that it would never be done...

I said it was going to happen (I didn't think it would be so soon), but I was called stupid and told I knew nothing about this company, I just wanted to point out that fact, I was very much correct.

The difference is that all of the content is available free of charge. That is drastically different than DLCs that must be bought to receive the content or WoW pets which can not be earned any other way.

Well, hate to say it but thats wrong also:

Relating to exclusive items.

There are select items that you can neither find nor craft, they must be bought.

When I heard about the update on the day it was released, I was amazed at it and prepared for the shit storms to come (especially on /v/).

Bit surprised by this too.

Still, Valve is at the top of the gaming industry still and I hope they won't overdo it.

Everyone is overlooking the fact that happiness is not always an emotion shown by someone who is right in their predictions.

Ah, but this is where you are wrong. If you were to guess the date of your own mothers death, although you would be deeply saddened, deep down you would be thinking, "I am awesome".
