Make Gun GLOW!?

So I know you can mess around with gun textures and and make them reflect more and what not. But is it possible to make a gun glow white almost like it is a light? And if so how?

If you changed an area of both the color and specular maps to white it would probably look a bit like that. Alternatively you might be able to attach an effect, but I don't even know where you would start to do that.
