Intersting comparison of the development and the biggest game worlds!
Just to give you all some comparison:
The biggest game (ES II: Daggerfall) has a game world larger than England, or half the size of Germany!
If Daggerfallwere a perfect square of landmass, it would take ~5 days of nonstop walking (3mph) to get from corner to corner.

Interesting, although it is all relative considering that a person can cross from one side of Burnout Paradise to the other in about 3 minutes and when you take into consideration the lack of detail on that map it makes it not nearly as impressive as games like Oblivion and Far Cry 2.

Just did a little research into Daggerfall (while editing the mistake of "Morrowind") and the land is randomly generated and is estimated to have 750,000 NPC's...
Yet, all of this still only requires 200mb

Yeh I already knew that Elder Scrolls 2 was the biggest world in gaming history. Pretty impressive concidering how old that game is.
Surprised why Fallout 3 isn't here though since that world map is just one square and I'm curious how big that world is compared to Oblivion.

There's still a lot of variation in it though. When you reach the snowy mountains in the north, the landscape slowly changes eventually being completely white.
Oblivion is probably the best SP game I've ever played. I've completed it countless of times. But there's so many hours into this game it's insane. There's so much things to do. Only downside is the voice acting sometimes, could use more diversity.
I'm curious if they're making another Elder Scrolls.

Considering how large WoW is, alone, this is quite an interesting topic.

Surprised Fallout 3 is only 15 miles. But is that with all the addons?

Well big studios have a lot of people working on world geometry, especially in GTA or RPGs. Lol@Dagerrfalls accurately measured area.
