Re: Random thought....
It's not dying off as much as calming down with the imminent releases of SC2 and Diablo 3, drawing attention away. It's probably lost a million or two subscribers, but it's definitely still thriving.

I don't think it's dying off. There are too many hours of potential joy in that game for that. A lot of people who haven't gotten everything out of it yet. And besides, Catavlysm is coming. Concclusion: I have the impression it's not dying off.

Re: Random thought....
lol, it's exactly the opposite.
They've mostly lost a lot of subscribers in China because of some issues which I can't remember. But even that is a few months ago.
They do make the end-game content more accessible which is obviously a good thing for a buisness company. But as a result the challenge of encounters starts decreasing. There are still crazy hard boss fights but every boss nowadays has an 'easy mode' and a 'hard mode' (You can only do one of the two). For many people (Me included) the hardmode kinda removes the epicness. You're doing the exact same boss again with just more health and 1 or 2 new abilities.
Back at vanilla WoW at level 60 the final dungeon of that game before The Burning Crusade came I think ~1-3% of the actual playerbase made some decent progress in that dungeon. That's not a lot of people (Less players back then aswell , around 6 million ?)
If we're still to believe Blizzards stats there's 11 million subscribers. That will probably increase even more in Cataclysm due to it requiring less playtime to be part of the best...

This, a lot of players have gone to play the SC2 beta but not with the intention to quit WoW. So no it isn't dieing.Soviet wrote:It's not dying off as much as calming down with the imminent releases of SC2 and Diablo 3, drawing attention away. I actually began to play retail not too long ago, and am fairly hooked myself. It doesn't seem to be dying, but many people are getting bored/waiting for the new expansion.
