Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
Wait, since when aren't people allowed to give their opinion ? This doesn't require any skill. Maybe it's smart, but it's also lame.
And no, I don't watch football. Games take too long, don't really like all those wimps crying when they get 1 tiny push and those gay team hugs when someone scores.
I do watch EU cup or world cup since that's interesting.

Yep, I did see the game, it was a very close game (which was pretty much thrown away due to the red card). Besides which, you can't really compare the quality of two leagues based on one match between one team from each league!Lev!athan wrote:you remember Manchester - FC Bayern (Bavaria) ^^ - though I don't have really the knowledge about the british league or the german except for team names and who'is on top. I just don't care about itPedsdude wrote:Pff, that's only because your top national league is rubbish compared to oursLev!athan wrote:it's soccer nobody gives a shit about this sport
I would say that as you're not a football fan, your opinion matters less in terms of what people think should and shouldn't be allowed in the game. If you're not going to watch football or support a team anyway, then it doesn't matter if you think this kind of goal is lame, because you're not going to be watching it! Of course, you could say something like "Perhaps I would watch it more often if this kind of thing wasn't allowed", but then again, it is what it is and they would probably equally lose viewers if they changed it to accomodate your opinion.[SoE]_Zaitsev wrote:Wait, since when aren't people allowed to give their opinion ? My opinion maybe matters less, I don't care. But you don't need football experience in order to say that making such a goal is lame. Everything to win I guess...

Basketball is better anyway.

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
Basketball has too many issues with rules. Football is often boring due to the lack of actual scoring. Neither are fantastic for entertainment.
Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
If goals were more common in football then they wouldn't be celebrated as much. I think it's about right tbh, you still get high scoring games from time to time.

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
I'll agree with you once games stop ending in 0-0, 1-0, or 1-1. Far too many games are decided by penalty kicks.

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
Maybe we should issue 2 goals for scoring in the area, and 3 for scoring outside it?

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
If a game ends 0-0, then it's either a tie or it goes to penalty kicks. Either way, it means I watched over 90 minutes of football for absolutely nothing. I literally could have gone outside and watched five year olds kick a ball around with the same effect. Perhaps with basketball there is too much scoring, but at least after spending two and a half hours watching a game I can say, "remember that awesome slam Stoudemire did" or "That behind the back pass into a 3 point play by Nash was amazing." When I walk away from a football game, only when I'm lucky do I even get to talk about a single goal. Even in those instances, the goal that is made isn't some spectacular feat, it's just an overwhelming push with a bit of luck mixed in.
Furthermore, when a game goes to penalty kicks it's decided almost as much by luck as it is by skill. The kicker is going to kick towards the left or the right side and the kicker never telegraphs enough for the goalie to be sure. He has to react before the kicker actually kicks the ball, so it comes down to about half luck whether or not he even dives the right way. A lot of football games end that way too.

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
Penalties are only used to determine the score of a match that must be finished. In other words, knock-out tournaments.
Penalties are the same in most ball sports in respect of chance of scoring:
Hockey - Taken from a few yards out, the chance of a keeper stopping it slim
Ice Hockey - One on One run up, more chance for Goalie to stop it, but unlikely
Basketball - No goalie, skill only limit
Rugby - No goalie, skill and distance
American Football - Ball can be charged, but unlikely to stop it.
Football - Kick from spot, goalie has low chance.
---
After a game of football, if the only thing you can comment on is goal, then I would suggest you stop watching it. When I come away from a game, things such as great passes, saves, tackles, free-kicks, shots and goals. Not every memorable moment has to involve scoring. the tension of a game is what builds up the fun of watching. When watching basketball, there is zero tension.
The joy of football is not watching the goals, but watching the game. Its a preference however, there are many people who do not enjoy it, but some people also enjoy watching golf...
Every sport has its downside...
Baseball - Throw, bat, run, rinse and repeat. Super boring.
Basketball - Dribble, pass, pass, pass, pass, dunk. Swap team.
Ice Hockey - Pass, Pass, pass, slam into side, hit away, penalty called...
American Football - Line up, run, stop, run, stop, throw, stop, punt, stop, 5 minute time out...
Cricket - Bowl, tap ball, bowl, tap ball, bowl, hit for four...
Golf - Hit ball, walk...
Tennis - Server, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit...

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
Indeed, the enjoyment factor isn't entirely about goals. And even so, 0-0 draws aren't that common anyway, so you rarely watch games where neither team scores.Drofder2004 wrote:After a game of football, if the only thing you can comment on is goal, then I would suggest you stop watching it. It's all about creating attacks, great through balls, crosses, great shots which don't necessarily score, etc. - the first 20 or so minutes of Arsenal vs Barcelona pretty much sums this up, there were no goals but it was unbelievably entertaining. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqcItV0q0Ro (up to 2:30 is the first half, no goals scored but an amazing half of football). There's a reason why "It is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world"

Re: Funny/Remarkable Videos
The best part of football is that the silly Americans call it soccer and that our small little country provides one of the best football players
