Simple Excel Formulas

Post by Coontang » April 7th, 2010, 6:49 pm

Hi, I'm trying to get some simple formulas and I just don't know what I need to put.

The one I'm after at the moment is C1 x D1 = E1, but I want this to be constant for all C's D's and E's (such as C2 x D2 = E2)

Wondering if theres a quicker formula than doing that for every box.

Edit: I just re-read it...do this in square E1
=$C1*$D1

Then simply drag from teh bottom right corner of that cell down through all the ones you want...it will then change it so that in E2 you have =$C2*D2 e.t.c

Thanks KS, thats what I was after :D now, every value in E corresponds with the values of C and D in the same row.

If you want it to be constantly the same number press F5?

No I meant the row number to be the same in each formula.

C2 x D2 = E2
C3 x D3 = E3

and so on. :D

Yep, can simply drag them down and it does it automatically.

Out of interest, how do you get it to keep it constant? Is it F5 as Hoogie said?

If you mean like if you want to do:
A1*B1
A1*B2
You select the A1 and press F5, then you drag it down and it does it automaticly for you.

As for the actual topic question you simple type in =A1*B1 and drag it down.

$A$5 when dragged down into B5 will still read $A$5. The $ tells it to keep that part of the reference constant.
If you press F5 it adds the $ for you ;)
Just pure lazyness tbh
