So my friends had a laptop for about a month, and its just got BSOD. I said I would fix it up for him and whack him Windows 7 on there, but I'm asking, should I be putting 32 bit or 64 bit on? He had XP on at the time, and it showed 3.49gb RAM, and when he looked further into the system it displayed the actual RAM stick amount as 4gb.
Does this mean he is running 32 bit at the moment? Just curious as he does not know and I would like to install him his preferred version.

64 bit. 32 bit can only read about 3.5 gb's and the RAM tends to be glitchy if it is over that amount.

I heard about a MS update that caused BSOD on XP users the other day - will try to find it.

Not that it has a solution, just some info about the problem
And yes as Soviet said, he is running 64bit.
