Fred Phelps is coming!

Fred Phelps is picketing my school Friday morning. For those of you who dont know who Fred Phelps is, he founded the Westboro Baptist Church, and is commonly associated with the phrase "God Hates Fags". He is picketing the school because we have had a lot of recent suicides, and he says that is God punishing the school for being accepting of homosexuality.

He also is anti-america, anti-jew, and just hateful to almost all minority groups.

Under American law, they have a right to free speech and a right to assemble, so they can say whatever they want about groups and assemble wherever they want as long as they do not harass or make personal comments. They make tons of money over people getting angry and "assaulting" them, and then use this money to spread more hate?

Am I the only one who thinks that it is a complete joke that American laws allow him to do this?

I think it's hilarious that your school is allowing him to "picket" your school.

If they make money off of being assaulted, then one day one of those assaults may be more than just an assault . Personally, I love free speech and don't care about whatever he is trying to accomplish. If you choose to not listen to his ideas, you can think of his speeches as a stand-up comedy routine and laugh at him. Just because he has the right to say something doesn't mean that you have to believe every word of what he is saying.

Disagree. Freedom of speach only works if it is unquestioned, regardless of if the content is agreable or not. Let him do as he please.

America disagrees. There are laws against offensive speech, or speech that would incite riots/public disobedience (no yelling fire in a theatre). Im not a lawyer so I dont know why what he is saying doesn't fall under the category "offensive speech" but this is absolutely ridiculous.

I believe it comes under laws related to both belief and right to protest.

Unfortunately Fred Phelps himself wasn't there, but his daughter who has taken over the show was. We just sat around singing songs like "Let it be" and "give peace a chance". I thought it was really nice
